Most people know Harding through MicroComm DXL or the Advanced fire alarm product line. What fewer people know is that OEM manufacturing is not a side business at Harding. It is the foundation the company was built on. When a team of University of Alberta professors founded Harding Instruments in 1969, the mandate was to develop and manufacture high-technology electronic products for customers who needed them done right. That is still exactly what we do.

Over 50 years, Harding has manufactured OEM products for customers in oil and gas, oil sands recovery, heavy equipment, and telecommunications. We have captured a significant share of the gas flow computer market in partnership with Cameron Measurement Systems. We have built instrumentation that operates under extreme environmental conditions in northern Alberta. We have engineered products that required capabilities most manufacturers do not have. And we have done all of it under the same ISO 9001 certified quality framework that governs every MicroComm DXL that leaves our facility.

Every OEM engagement starts differently. Some customers arrive with detailed specifications and need a manufacturing partner. Others arrive with a problem and need Harding’s engineering team to develop the solution. Here are some examples of what that has produced.

Gas Flow Computers and Flow Totalisers

Harding’s flow measurement product family includes flow computers and flow totalisers designed to measure natural gas and liquids under extreme environmental conditions. In partnership with Cameron Measurement Systems, a recognised name in gas flow measurement, Harding has captured a significant share of this specialised market. These are precision instruments operating in environments that are unforgiving of poor engineering.

Oil Sands Monitoring Equipment

Harding has manufactured oil sands monitors used in tar-sand extraction plants to measure bitumen content. This application requires instrumentation that performs reliably in some of the harshest industrial conditions in Canada, where extreme cold, abrasive materials, and demanding measurement accuracy requirements all have to be met simultaneously. It is the kind of application that demonstrates what ISO 9001 certified manufacturing actually means in practice.

Heavy Equipment Control Systems

Variable pitch fan controllers for heavy equipment is one example of a broader capability in heavy equipment control systems.
